The deadline for electing the President of Kosovo expires today, while the political scene remains divided over the name that could secure the necessary support in the Assembly of Kosovo.

The Vetëvendosje Movement officially proposed on Wednesday the name of Glauk Konjufca for President, pushing the process into a decisive phase just before the constitutional deadline expires.

Meanwhile, the Democratic League of Kosovo and the Democratic Party of Kosovo have stated that they will not vote for any candidate without a broad political agreement among parliamentary parties.

Vetëvendosje has said it is ready for a democratic contest in the Assembly and has called on LDK and PDK to propose a candidate so that the conditions can be created to convene a session and hold the presidential vote.

Regarding the latest political developments, former President Behgjet Pacolli urged the MPs of the Assembly of Kosovo to act responsibly in the presidential election process and avoid pushing the country into new elections.

He said he hopes that the representatives of the people understand the importance of the political moment.

“I hope that the MPs of the Assembly of Kosovo are aware and will not allow the country to go to elections again. It would be appropriate for them to talk and choose the candidate they will vote for,” Pacolli said.

Asked whether he would like to be a candidate for President himself, Pacolli made it clear that he is no longer actively involved in politics and has stepped away from that field.

“No, I have stepped away from politics and that is better. Of course, I will continue to contribute to Kosovo in other ways,” Pacolli stated.
