A bomb exploded last night at around 21:35 outside the offices of the Greek railway company Hellenic Train, located on Syngrou Avenue in Athens.

According to police reports, an unidentified individual had earlier called the editorial office of the newspaper Efimerida ton Syntakton and the website Zoungla, warning that a bomb had been placed near the offices and would detonate in 35 minutes.

He emphasized, “This is not a joke.”

Police responded immediately, cordoning off the area and blocking traffic on Syngrou Avenue from Athanassiou Diakou Street to Kallirois. A bomb squad arrived at the scene and noticed a parked scooter with no license plates and a travel bag placed on top.

Specialists were unable to conduct a controlled explosion, as the device detonated exactly at the time mentioned in the phone call.

Fortunately, police confirmed that there were no injuries, while investigations into the perpetrator and the motive are ongoing.
