The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) has called for an end to what it describes as political stalling, arguing that the only viable solution is to hold new early elections.
In a press release, the party stated that any attempt to give Vetëvendosje another mandate would represent a waste of time, an unnecessary delay, and a further erosion of public trust in Kosovo’s institutions.
“The Democratic Party of Kosovo believes that the country faces a decisive political and institutional moment that demands clear, responsible decisions aligned with the current political reality in the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo,” the statement read.
“It is evident that the Albanian majority in the Assembly, together with some non-Serb minority representatives, have made it clear they will not vote for another Vetëvendosje nominee. Any such attempt would only prolong the crisis and deepen public mistrust in institutions,” PDK declared.
According to PDK, the political reality is clear — no party currently holds a majority.
“Just as Albin Kurti failed to secure a governing majority, every other attempt to artificially extend this process by Vetëvendosje will also fail,” the statement continued.
“Ignoring this reality would further deepen the political crisis, extend institutional uncertainty, and harm the country’s stability. The only right and democratic solution is to hold new early elections, giving the citizens of Kosovo the chance to decide the country’s direction and restore legitimacy to its institutions.”
PDK also accused Vetëvendosje of being responsible for a prolonged political crisis, which has damaged the economy, undermined citizens’ welfare, and strained relations with international partners. The party warned that the failure to approve the state budget on time could leave public sector employees without salaries next year.
“In the name of responsibility and public trust, the Democratic Party of Kosovo calls for an end to all political improvisation and self-serving maneuvers, reaffirming its commitment to democratic stability and the normal functioning of institutions,” the statement concluded.
Meanwhile, Vetëvendosje’s General Council today officially nominated Glauk Konjufca as the party’s candidate for Prime Minister.
