The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) has responded to reports concerning the possible resignation of its leader, Bedri Hamza, clarifying that no official decision has yet been made regarding his departure from the party’s leadership.

In its statement, the PDK confirmed that Hamza has publicly announced his decision not to seek another term as party leader, adding that he will submit his resignation once the internal election process begins.

“There is no official decision regarding this matter. Chairman Hamza has publicly stated that, whenever the internal election process is launched, he will resign and will not run for the position again,” the PDK said in its response.

The clarification follows reports suggesting that Hamza had already decided to step down as head of the political party and that Vlora Çitaku was expected to assume the role of acting party leader.

However, the PDK has not confirmed any decision to appoint an acting leader or implement immediate changes to the party’s leadership.

The party stated that its current focus is on supporting the defence of former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) leaders standing trial in The Hague.

“At this stage, the PDK is focused on finalising the steps necessary to support the defence of former KLA leaders in The Hague during the appeals phase,” the statement continued.

The PDK emphasised that the public would be informed in due course of any official decisions concerning developments within the party.

“We will inform you in due time of any official decisions and developments within the party,” the statement concluded.
