The Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) has reiterated that it is prepared to discuss the election of Kosovo’s president with the ruling Vetëvendosje Movement (LVV), but only after the draft legislation amending the Law on the Specialist Chambers is addressed.
PDK MP Rrahman Rama said the passage of the proposed amendments remains the party’s immediate priority, while discussions on the presidential issue could follow afterward.
“You know the position of the PDK, as well as that of Chairman Bedri Hamza. For us, the priority is the Law on the Specialist Chambers, so that there is oversight of the process and financial support. After that, we can sit down and discuss,” Rama said.
His comments come as Prime Minister Albin Kurti has indicated that the draft law could be submitted to the Assembly this week, following the issuance of a legal opinion by the Ministry of Justice.
Rama said PDK’s position is that Kosovo should complete the establishment of its institutions as soon as possible.
The debate over the Specialist Chambers law is taking place alongside political consultations on the election of Kosovo’s president, with the parties seeking a way to resolve the country’s outstanding institutional issues.
The PDK has previously emphasized the need for greater parliamentary oversight of the Specialist Chambers process and continued financial support for proceedings before the court in The Hague.
