An unusual incident occurred on Tuesday at “Napoleon Bonaparte” Airport in Ajaccio, where an Air Corsica Airbus A320, departing from Paris with a one-hour delay, had to remain in the air for nearly an hour because the only air traffic controller on duty had fallen asleep, according to the flight captain.

The plane faced a lack of communication from the control tower, forcing the pilots to circle over the Gulf of Ajaccio while seeking assistance from regional controllers.

According to the local newspaper Corse Matin, only one controller was on duty and failed to respond, prompting the airport fire team to alert the gendarmerie. After some delays due to security doors, the controller was found asleep in his office.
