Pope Francis has called on political and economic leaders at the World Economic Forum in Davos to closely monitor the development of artificial intelligence (AI), warning that the technology could exacerbate the growing “crisis of truth”.
In a written statement read out in Davos, the Pope praised the capabilities of AI technology but warned that it causes “great concern” for the future of humanity, Reuters reported.
“The results that artificial intelligence can produce are almost the same as those produced by humans, which raises questions about its impact on the growing crisis of truth,” he said.
He stressed that governments and businesses should be cautious and recommended that they closely monitor the development of artificial intelligence.
