No one wants to end the war in Ukraine more than the Ukrainians themselves, but it must result in peace, said the head of Ukraine’s presidential administration to Euronews in Davos, after President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed delegates, urging Europe to wake up.

“Europe cannot afford to be second or third in line for its allies,” said the Ukrainian president.

In his speech in Davos, Zelensky made a strong “wake-up call” for the continent.

“The message could not be more urgent: Russia’s full-scale war against Ukraine, now in its third year, remains at everyone’s doorstep. Battles involving North Korean soldiers are now happening closer to Davos than to Pyongyang,” said the Ukrainian leader.

His chief of staff, Andriy Yermak, told Euronews that Ukraine needs Europe’s support to end the war it never wanted to begin in the first place.

“We are the victims of this aggression, and we truly want to restore a fair peace. We want to end this war. But of course, this year in Davos, the president’s speech was specifically about this moment and about Europe,” Yermak explained.

Zelensky’s speech in Davos came just a day after the inauguration of U.S. President Donald Trump, and Kyiv authorities remain confident that the new U.S. administration will stand by Ukraine.

“We appreciate the willingness of the U.S. president and the new administration to make that a reality and to bring this war to an end with a fair peace,” Yermak said.

When it comes to Russia’s aggression, “it is necessary to be united: Europe, the United States, and Ukraine, and to move towards peace through strength,” he added.
