A powerful storm accompanied by torrential rain has struck the Goriška region of Slovenia, causing severe flooding, landslides, and significant damage to infrastructure. The town of Goriška Brda has been especially affected, though damage has also been reported in the municipalities of Kanal ob Soči and Tolminsko.

According to Sam Kosmač, commander of the regional Civil Protection Headquarters, water surged into several buildings overnight. Firefighters and civil protection teams have responded to approximately 15 emergency incidents, with recovery operations still underway.

While most landslides reported so far do not pose an immediate threat to residential homes, transportation has been disrupted in several areas:

  • The regional road Dobrovo – Neblo has been closed due to flooding.
  • Traffic is alternating on the Solkan – Gonjače section.

In the Goriška area, some roads remain blocked due to debris, and one bridge has been destroyed. The storm also caused damage to the local power grid, leaving many residents without electricity:

  • In Višnjevik, a fallen electrical pole left around 200 users without power.
  • In Šlovrenc, around 80 households were affected after another pole collapsed.

Local authorities are urging residents to remain cautious as emergency services continue to assess and repair the damage.
