The President of the Republic of Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani-Sadriu, has officially invited political party leaders to meet on July 31 for consultations on setting the election date.

In the letter obtained by “Betimi për Drejtësi” and sent to party leaders, Osmani stated that based on the Constitution and the Law on General Elections, elections must be held between January 26 and February 16, 2025.

“In this regard, based on my constitutional competencies for announcing elections for the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, you are invited to a consultative meeting on July 31, 2024, at 14:00, in Room S301, at the Assembly Building of the Republic of Kosovo,” reads the letter obtained by “Betimi për Drejtësi.”

The last national elections were held on February 14, 2021, when Vetëvendosje emerged first with more than 50 percent of the vote. The second party was PDK, the third LDK, and the fourth AAK. Fatmir Limaj’s party did not pass the electoral threshold.

Vetëvendosje won the elections in coalition with the “Guxo” Party, founded by Vjosa Osmani, who is now the President of the Republic. Recently, Prime Minister Albin Kurti invited political parties for a meeting, where the topic of elections was also discussed. Only PDK leader Memli Krasniqi attended, requesting that elections be held in June. LDK and AAK disagreed with holding elections by dissolving the Parliament but instead called for the Government’s resignation.
