As Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani announced the removal of the remaining European Union punitive measures against Kosovo, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama publicly intervened to praise her leadership, calling the development entirely her achievement.

During a video message in which President Osmani informed the public that the final EU measures against Kosovo are expected to be lifted by the end of January, Prime Minister Rama appeared unexpectedly, embracing Osmani and congratulating her on the outcome.

“This Is 100 Percent Her Merit”

Rama emphasized that the progress achieved was solely due to Osmani’s efforts, offering explicit public recognition of her role.

“This is good news, and it is 100 percent her merit. Congratulations,” Rama said.

Context of the Announcement

The EU measures were imposed amid heightened tensions in northern Kosovo, and their gradual removal has been linked to institutional stabilization and the peaceful transfer of local authority following elections. Osmani’s announcement signals the final phase of lifting the restrictions, marking a significant diplomatic development for Kosovo.

Symbolic Moment of Regional Support

The interaction between Osmani and Rama was widely interpreted as a gesture of political solidarity and regional cooperation, underscoring Albania’s continued support for Kosovo’s European integration and international standing.

The announcement comes at a time when Kosovo is seeking to strengthen relations with the European Union and reassert its commitment to democratic governance and the rule of law.
