A remarkably rare copy of the United States Declaration of Independence has been discovered at the UK National Archives in Kew.
According to archival records, it is the only known copy of its kind located outside the United States. The document was uncovered by volunteer Michael Scurr while organizing historical archives.
The copy is one of only 11 editions printed in New Hampshire in July 1776. It was reportedly seized by the British Royal Navy during the American Revolutionary War.
For centuries, the document remained hidden among the papers of a British naval captain.
Following restoration, the rare copy will go on public display as part of the “Revolution 250” exhibition at the UK National Archives.
