The United States is celebrating Independence Day today. July 4 marks the anniversary of the nation’s declaration of independence. The Declaration of Independence is the historic document through which the 13 British colonies in North America declared their independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain.

The Declaration of Independence was ratified on July 4, 1776. The U.S. Constitution, signed in 1787, later established the foundation and structure of the United States government, dividing it into three branches: the executive, legislative, and judicial—represented by the President, Congress, and the Supreme Court.

Across the United States, Independence Day is celebrated with grand parades, family gatherings, community events, and concludes with spectacular fireworks displays.
