Russian political theorist Aleksandr Dugin has intensified his anti-EU rhetoric, calling on Albanians and Serbs to unite against what he describes as the European Union’s “globalist elites.”

“Serbs and Albanians must fight together against the EU globalists,” Dugin wrote on X, following Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama’s recent allegations of Russian influence behind the latest protests in Albania.

In other posts, Dugin declared “The great European decline…” and wrote: “Arab Spring = European Autumn. The fall of the West.”

His latest statements follow earlier posts in which he portrayed Albanians as a people rediscovering their historical and spiritual identity, referring to Orthodox Christianity, Sufi Islam and their Indo-European origins.

Rama recently accused Russia of attempting to influence Albania’s domestic affairs through social media, alleging that thousands of fake profiles were being used to shape public opinion. He also referred to possible Iranian interference.

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova rejected the allegations, insisting that the protests were driven by Albanian citizens and telling Rama to address his country’s internal problems rather than blame outside forces.

Dugin’s call for a joint Albanian-Serbian front against the EU marks a shift from cultural and religious messaging to an explicit geopolitical appeal, consistent with his opposition to the liberal Western order.

The question is: Is this simply Dugin’s anti-Western ideology, or an attempt to exploit unrest in the Balkans and push the region away from the EU?
