The United Kingdom, France, and other Western states will not recognize the statehood of Palestine during the international conference to be held in Saudi Arabia from June 17 to 20, reports Gazeta Sinjali. Instead of a joint declaration on recognition, the meeting will focus on coordinated steps towards a political solution and regional stability.

According to diplomatic sources, this decision marks a retreat from the initial plan that envisioned a coordinated stance on recognizing Palestinian statehood, including by countries like France and the United Kingdom – two permanent members of the UN Security Council.

French President Emmanuel Macron had previously described the recognition of Palestine as “a moral duty and a political requirement,” but French officials have now informed Israel that such a step will not be undertaken during this conference.

The conference will now primarily concentrate on achieving a sustainable ceasefire in Gaza, the release of Israeli hostages, reforming the Palestinian Authority, economic reconstruction, and the elimination of Hamas rule in the Gaza Strip.
