A 35-year-old man with Italian citizenship, reportedly of Albanian origin, has been arrested at the Merdare border crossing after Serbian authorities found a T-shirt bearing the symbols of the Kosovo Liberation Army (UÇK) in his car trunk.
According to Serbia’s Ministry of Internal Affairs, the individual, identified as E.E., was driving a Peugeot vehicle and was entering Serbian territory from the direction of Kosovo.
Serbian media report that he has been detained for up to 48 hours on charges of “inciting hatred.”
However, the ministry did not specify whether the arrest occurred before or after the football match between Serbia and Albania, which ended 1–0 in favor of Albania.
