Serbia’s President, Aleksandar Vučić, declared that his country is heavily arming itself to prevent a repeat of the events of 1995 and 1999, including the NATO bombing of Serbia. Speaking in an interview with Pink TV, Vučić stated that Serbia views Croatia as a potential adversary but emphasized that the country is focusing on strengthening its military forces for defensive purposes.

Vučić explained that, according to the changed military doctrine of Serbia, the country needs to be more powerful than a significant portion of its neighbors combined. “We are building a military that is powerful, fast, efficient, and serious,” he said, noting that this process is ongoing to ensure that events such as Operation Storm in 1995 and the NATO bombing during the Kosovo conflict in 1999 are never repeated.

The President clarified that Serbia has no intention of attacking anyone but warned that no one should consider aggression against Serbia. He highlighted the importance of military strength as a deterrent against external threats.

Although he acknowledged that Croatia is a more developed country, Vučić pointed out that Serbia is advancing at a faster pace, with the gap between the two nations steadily narrowing. He also confirmed that Serbia has made significant arms purchases from Russia and China to boost its military capabilities.

This statement reflects ongoing concerns in Serbia about security and its desire to modernize and strengthen its armed forces in the context of regional tensions and historical conflicts.
