On the occasion of the 26th anniversary of the Liberation of the Municipality of Drenas, a solemn session of the Municipal Assembly was held today to honor the fallen heroes, martyrs, and all contributors to freedom.
The event was attended by the Mayor of Drenas, Ramiz Lladrovci, Deputy Mayor Arben Shala, Assembly Chair Bekim Lestrani, municipal assembly members, heads of municipal directorates, and citizens.
The session was opened by Chair Bekim Lestrani, who emphasized the importance of this historical date, stating:
“On this day, we remember, honor, and bow before all those who fell for the freedom of our country.”
In his address, Mayor Ramiz Lladrovci said that June 14th represents the pride, sacrifice, and determination of Drenas’ citizens in the struggle for Kosovo’s liberation.

“On this meaningful day, we pay tribute to those who fell on the altar of freedom. Through various activities, we’ve expressed our respect for the martyrs and their families, and for all the citizens who contributed to the liberation of Drenas and Kosovo,” said Lladrovci.
He mentioned the laying of wreaths at memorials across all villages of the municipality, the opening of an art exhibition by painter Agim Bujupi, and the screening of the documentary film “Fatosi i Pëllumbave të Lirisë” dedicated to Hero Fatos Krasniqi. He also announced that tomorrow, a statue of Hero Asllan Fazliu will be unveiled.
Lladrovci also highlighted the role of past generations and patriotic families who raised new generations with love for the homeland. He stressed that freedom, won through great sacrifice, must never be forgotten, and that Drenas will always remain an unbreakable stronghold of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA).
“On this anniversary, we remember our national pride, beginning with Ahmet Deliu, continuing with Azem Bejta, Shotë Galica, Shaban Polluzha, and culminating with legendary names such as Adem and Hamëz Jashari, Fehmi and Xhevë Lladrovci, Ilaz Kodra, Bedri Shala, Rasim Kiqina, and many others,” Lladrovci said.
He also addressed current challenges in the municipality, including population decline and water issues, emphasizing their commitment to improving citizens’ lives through work and rule of law.
Remarks were also given by Valentina Leku-Gashi on behalf of the PDK parliamentary group and Egzona Tërdevci from the Vetëvendosje Movement.
The event concluded with a call for greater love, respect, and unity among citizens, to honor the sacrifice of those who gave their lives for freedom with dignity.
