The Speaker of the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo, Dimal Basha, warmly received the Ambassador of the Republic of Albania to Kosovo, Petrit Malaj, along with Deputy Ambassador Pranvera Teli, in a fraternal meeting.
At the beginning of the meeting, Speaker Basha congratulated the election of the Speaker of the Albanian Parliament, Niko Peleshi, and extended his heartfelt wishes to Ambassador Malaj for this significant event for the Albanian state.
During the discussion, the Speaker and the Ambassador explored the possibility of establishing a Liaison Office between the parliaments of the two countries. This office would allow members of parliament to receive real-time updates on developments within the respective institutions, exchange positions on specific issues, and stay informed about ongoing procedures and initiatives of importance to both countries.
Such a mechanism would also facilitate mutual learning from the experiences of parliamentary committees and working bodies, allowing the exchange of best practices and strengthening inter-institutional cooperation to address shared challenges and advance the development agendas of both parliaments.
Speaker Basha emphasized the importance of Albania’s continued support for Kosovo’s European Union integration process, underlining the Assembly of Kosovo’s commitment to progress in this direction. He also congratulated Ambassador Malaj on Albania opening four new chapters in its EU accession negotiations, noting this as an important milestone in the European integration path.
Furthermore, Speaker Basha requested continued support from Albania in addressing the challenges Kosovo is facing, particularly against ongoing aggression from Serbia, which undertakes various diplomatic, propagandistic, and destabilizing actions against Kosovo. He urged Albania to advocate with international partners for the removal of unjust measures imposed on Kosovo, highlighting the need for a fair and equal approach towards the state and its citizens.
Finally, Speaker Basha thanked Ambassador Malaj for his continuous engagement and contribution to enhancing cooperation between the two countries, stressing the need for even greater synchronization between Kosovo and Albania’s institutions at all levels to successfully face shared challenges and advance the European agendas of both states.
