Following the Trump administration’s attempt to shut down the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) on the grounds of alleged misuse of funds, Martin De Luca, a former U.S. prosecutor now part of President Trump’s team, has arrived in Republika Srpska, Bosnia and Herzegovina, to investigate the potential misuse of American taxpayer dollars in the Balkan country, Bosnian media report.

He stated in Banja Luka that an investigation into the spending of USAID funds in Bosnia and Herzegovina has begun, and initial information suggests that over the past four years, $402 million has been spent, with $250 million of that unaccounted for.

“I have recently been working with my team on a range of issues related to USAID concerning funds that may have been misused or lost. President Trump has been committed to uncovering what happened. We are here in Bosnia to see how American taxpayer dollars have been spent. Both President Trump and the Attorney General have been very clear about this,” said the American prosecutor.

According to De Luca, the USAID funds spent worldwide are American taxpayer dollars.

“It is clear that we must get to the bottom of this matter to understand whether these funds have been misused or stolen,” he stated, emphasizing that those responsible for misusing the funds must be held accountable, regardless of whether they are American or foreign nationals.
