Minister of Internal Affairs, Xhelal Sveçla, has accused the Serbian List and official Belgrade of boycotting with the aim of sabotaging the voting process today in the four northern municipalities of Kosovo.

“The Serbian List, both in the past and now, through various forms directed by Belgrade, boycotted and sabotaged the democratic process as an opportunity to bring the municipalities into new elections. This entity, infused with undemocratic methods, finds itself in no way aligned with such a democratic process,” Sveçla wrote on Facebook.

He praised the security institutions for closing the day without any incidents.

“The Republic of Kosovo gave the citizens of the four northern municipalities the opportunity today to decide on their municipal mayors. The Central Election Commission, in cooperation with other institutions, once again demonstrated commitment to carrying out its mandate and fully respecting the right of citizens to decide on their future. We will continue our commitment to our citizens regardless of differences; our institutions will serve everyone and ensure the security of our country. Kosovo is a democratic republic, for all citizens without discrimination,” Sveçla concluded.

The Central Election Commission (CEC) announced that the initiative to dismiss the mayors of the northern municipalities in Kosovo has failed, as 50 percent plus 1 of the voters did not participate in this process. Only 253 people participated in today’s voting process.
