Sweden suspects that two individuals exported industrial products intended for Russia’s military industry, in violation of international sanctions.
The Swedish Security Service (Säpo) announced that the two suspects were arrested last week and have been placed in pre-trial detention. The investigation concerns the export of “advanced products” to Russia, with suspicions that the items ended up in the Russian military-industrial complex.
Swedish authorities have carried out several searches and raids in the southern and western parts of the country, while the investigation remains in an intensive phase. According to prosecutors, the alleged violations took place between June 2025 and May 2026.
The case is linked to sanctions imposed on Russia following its invasion of Ukraine in 2022. Investigators say such cases usually involve multiple intermediaries in order to conceal the export trail.
The prosecution is expected to decide whether to file charges by June 5.
