The situation became tense on Monday evening outside the Kosovo Assembly, where protesters gathered in support of the approval of the Law on the Specialist Chambers and moved closer to the police barriers placed at the entrance to the building.

As darkness fell over Prishtina, protesters remained outside the Assembly and demanded that MPs not leave the building until the draft law amending and supplementing the Law on the Specialist Chambers was put to a vote.

Meanwhile, the Kosovo Police deployed Special Units in front of the Assembly building, increasing security measures.

The situation escalated further after fireworks were thrown toward the Government building, while police responded by using tear gas.

Protesters continue to remain near the Assembly building, while MPs remain inside.

The Kosovo Police have closed the Assembly doors, leaving MPs and journalists inside the building unable to exit.

Further developments are expected to depend on decisions taken inside the Assembly regarding the draft legislation on the Specialist Chambers.
