Tensions escalated outside the Kosovo government building in Prishtina on Wednesday after several protesters attempted to push through a police cordon.

Protesters approached members of the Kosovo Police and tried to move the barriers positioned in front of the government building.

Despite the confrontation, the protest continued, with demonstrators remaining in the square outside the government offices.

Chants of “KLA, KLA” could be heard repeatedly among the protesters.

Former KLA commander Nasim Haradinaj and Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) MP Ganimete Musliu were also among those taking part in the protest.

The demonstration comes amid strong public reactions in Kosovo following the first-instance convictions of former KLA leaders Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi by the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague.
