The chairman of the Central Election Commission, Kreshnik Radoniqi, has confirmed that the vote for the removal of the Albanian mayors in the north has failed.

In a conference called for the media, he said that there were no voters in Zveçan.

“All 23 voting centers were closed at 19:00, according to the data we received in these four municipalities, the number of citizens who voted in the voting process for or against the removal of the mayors from their position is as follows:

Leposaviq 124 voters, Zubin Potok 18 voters, Zveçan did not vote, and in North Mitrovica 111 voters”, said Radoniqi.

“The majority of registered voters did not vote, so the necessary 50% plus 1 was not reached, therefore we conclude that the citizens’ initiative to remove the mayors has failed”, he confirmed.

“The CEC is maximally engaged to organize the voting process in these municipalities”, he said
