The passing of Pope Francis has caused disruption in Italian football due to the cancellation of matches scheduled for Monday across its various leagues.
And not all Serie A clubs are willing to accept the rescheduling decision made by the League, which moved these fixtures to Wednesday afternoon.
Lazio has officially submitted a letter to the League, requesting the cancellation of this decision regarding Wednesday’s matches, when they are set to play away against Genoa.
The club has asked for a meeting with the League “to find an alternative solution through mutual agreement.”
According to Lazio, the protest is not only due to logistical and organizational difficulties surrounding the match, but also stems from the club’s desire to travel to the Vatican to pay respects, as the memorial events are set to take place on Wednesday.
