The first returns of patients injured in the fire in Koçan, who were sent abroad for treatment, are expected on Monday.
The Director of the Health Insurance Fund, Sasho Klekovski, announced that the treatment of the patients will continue within the country, as burns are a medical process that can take several months.
“We must think about the 150 injured who will need prolonged care and treatment. We’re talking about skin transplants, we’re talking about rehabilitation. So, yes, we need to think about how we’ll bring our children back, and I believe the first returns will happen on Monday,” Klekovski said.
He assured that there are qualified doctors for burn treatment, including a team from the former burn center at the surgical diseases clinic “Saint Naum Ohrid,” which has been closed since 2016.
According to Klekovski, assistance in treating the patients has come from international medical teams, including those from the Military Medical Academy in Belgrade, the Czech Republic, Israel, and several other countries.
