On March 18, Kosovo, Albania, and Croatia signed a declaration in Tirana committing to strengthen cooperation in defense and security.

This agreement has sparked numerous reactions, including from Serbia, which labeled it as an “open provocation” directed at Belgrade.

Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić expressed concern over this new defense alliance, while Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković responded by emphasizing that Croatia does not need to consult anyone, including Serbia, on this matter.

In response to this, Kosovo’s President Vjosa Osmani stated that the trilateral agreement aims exactly at this—to help each other strengthen defense capacities, to defend themselves, and never to attack anyone.

She also emphasized that the era when Serbia could be consulted on any issue has come to an end.

“… Serbia is now using propaganda, claiming that a 1966 agreement is being violated, but anyone who reads that agreement can see one thing: Serbia is doing what it has always done—lying. There is no truth in what they have said, and there is no danger for them. On the contrary… There is only one source of instability in our region, and that is Serbia. The entire region agrees on this… But the times when Serbia is asked about anything have ended once and for all. We are a sovereign state, an independent country, and we make our own decisions in line with Kosovo’s interests, always with the goal of peace and regional stability, which is only threatened by Serbia,” said the President of Kosovo.
