Negotiations between the Vetëvendosje Movement (LVV) and the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) over a possible political agreement have continued for more than two hours.
The meeting, initiated by acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti, is being held at the Kosovo Assembly behind closed doors. Kurti is accompanied by acting Finance Minister Hekuran Murati, while the LDK delegation includes party leader Lumir Abdixhiku, deputy leader Lutfi Haziri, and former LDK presidential candidate Vjosa Osmani.
No details have been made public yet from the closed-door meeting. Officials from both parties are expected to address the media afterward to clarify whether progress has been made toward forming a joint government.
Before the meeting began, Kurti said that his party has “enough support” to constitute the Assembly and form the new government, but stressed that electing the President requires cooperation between both the government and the opposition.
“We have enough support when it comes to the Assembly and the government, but everyone knows that responsibility for electing the President does not belong only to the majority, but also to the opposition, because the Constitution sees the President as an expression of unity where the opposition and government must come together,” Kurti said.
Abdixhiku did not make any statements to the media before the talks, saying he would speak after the meeting.
The negotiations are taking place as part of efforts to overcome the political deadlock and establish the new institutions following the June 7 elections.
