The Working Group established by the Government of Kosovo to develop a state strategy regarding the appeal proceedings before the Kosovo Specialist Chambers in The Hague convened this Saturday to coordinate actions for the next phase of the judicial process involving former Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA) leaders.

The meeting focused on issues related to the appeal procedure against the first-instance verdict handed down to Hashim Thaçi, Kadri Veseli, Jakup Krasniqi and Rexhep Selimi, who were sentenced to a combined total of 81 years in prison on September 16.

The meeting had been announced on Thursday by Foreign Minister Glauk Konjufca, who chairs the Working Group. He stated that the meeting would last several hours, with members dedicating the entire day to addressing the matter.

Before the meeting began, members of the Working Group made no statements to the media, indicating that they would present their positions after the conclusion of the meeting.

On September 16, the four former KLA leaders were sentenced to a combined 81 years in prison for war crimes, including unlawful detention, cruel treatment, torture and unlawful killings. They were acquitted of crimes against humanity.
