U.S. President Donald Trump has promised a new security agreement for Ukraine that “could involve all of Europe,” following Thursday’s meeting with a senior Russian envoy. However, the proposal contains few details and has left European capitals uncertain about Washington’s intentions.
“It will be a very big deal. It will involve more than just Ukraine, and I would even say it could involve all of Europe. It will be a big and fantastic deal, and everyone will be happy,” Trump told reporters on Thursday, without providing further details, A2 CNN reports.
The U.S. president, who has repeatedly promised to reach an agreement to end the war in Ukraine, made the remarks after meeting with Kirill Dmitriev, the sanctioned head of Russia’s sovereign wealth fund, who also serves as an envoy for Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, also issued a statement on X on Thursday, arguing that “a broader European security architecture” is needed to address the security concerns of all parties, reduce the risk of future conflicts and establish a more stable and predictable security environment.
