Rodoljub Rončević, warden of the Zabela Correctional Institution in Požarevac, was detained on Friday on the orders of the Higher Public Prosecutor’s Office in Kraljevo.
According to information obtained by Nova.rs, the operation was carried out in coordination with a commission established by Serbia’s Supreme Public Prosecutor’s Office last week. The commission has already issued several instructions requiring prosecutors to take specific investigative measures.
The commission ordered an investigation into allegations that a call center belonging to the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) was organized inside the Zabela prison on October 25, election day.
The alleged activities have raised questions about the use of state institutions and public resources during the electoral process.
The prosecutor’s office has not yet issued an official statement regarding Rončević’s detention.
