Iran has presented the United States with seven conditions for negotiations over its nuclear programme, making clear that it will not engage in talks until Washington meets its demands.
According to a senior Iranian official quoted by Reuters, Tehran has delivered a proposal to the United States through Qatar. The official said the Trump administration was reviewing the document but provided no further details about its contents.
US President Donald Trump was asked whether he had seen the Iranian proposal. He responded that Iran “does nothing without approval” and reiterated that Tehran would not be allowed to obtain nuclear weapons, regardless of what Washington was considering.
Iran’s top security official, Mohsen Rezaei, confirmed during a visit to Russia that Tehran had communicated seven conditions to the United States.
“Regarding diplomacy, we have made our seven conditions known to the Americans. Until they are fulfilled, we will neither reopen the Strait of Hormuz nor engage in negotiations,” Rezaei said.
Among Iran’s key demands are the lifting of US sanctions, the release of frozen Iranian assets and the payment of war reparations.
Washington, meanwhile, insists that nuclear issues must be included in all initial negotiations, highlighting the differences between the two sides over the framework for a potential agreement.
International mediators have intensified diplomatic efforts to end the conflict between Iran and the United States, amid concerns that hostilities could escalate again following the US congressional elections.
Trump has not ruled out the possibility of resuming military operations after the elections, while Iran has warned that it would launch a broader response if the war continues.
