US President Donald Trump has claimed that the war in Ukraine is approaching its end, announcing that a “very big” agreement with Russia is being prepared, one that could involve not only Ukraine but the entire European continent.

Trump made the remarks on Thursday following an unannounced meeting at the White House with Kirill Dmitriev, a special envoy of Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office, Trump declined to disclose details of the discussions but insisted that a major agreement was being negotiated.

“I can’t tell you what we discussed. But I can tell you that a deal will be made — a big deal. It will be very big. It will involve more than just Ukraine; I would even say it could involve all of Europe. It will be a great, beautiful deal, and everyone will be extremely satisfied,” Trump said.

The US president added that he had not met with Ukrainian officials on Thursday, although representatives from Ukraine were also present at the White House.

Meanwhile, Jared Kushner, Trump’s son-in-law and US envoy, announced that the United States, NATO and European partners had held “productive and substantive discussions” on a possible end to the war in Ukraine.

“Our goal is to address the security concerns of all parties through practical, mutually agreed arrangements that will reduce the risk of future conflicts,” Kushner wrote on the social media platform X.

Further talks involving representatives from Kyiv and Moscow are scheduled to take place in Abu Dhabi next week.

Trump has repeatedly promised to bring the war in Ukraine to a swift conclusion. During his presidential campaign, he pledged to end the conflict within 24 hours of returning to the White House, although no concrete settlement has yet been presented.

Ukraine and Russia Thank Melania Trump

Representatives from Russia and Ukraine also visited the White House on Thursday for an event highlighting the humanitarian efforts of US First Lady Melania Trump, who reportedly helped mediate a recent ceasefire in the war-ravaged city of Oleshky.

Russian envoy Kirill Dmitriev thanked Melania Trump for what he described as her significant humanitarian role in securing a six-day ceasefire.

He added that Russian President Vladimir Putin had personally issued instructions during the operation and expressed his gratitude to the US First Lady.

The event also featured Davyd Arakhamia, head of the parliamentary group of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s party, and Ukraine’s Human Rights Ombudsman, Dmytro Lubinets.

Arakhamia praised Melania Trump for her “excellent work” and urged her to continue supporting the Ukrainian people.

“We would like to ask you to continue, to find new missions and to help reduce tensions as much as possible,” Arakhamia said.

The latest diplomatic contacts come amid renewed efforts by Washington and its European partners to explore possible arrangements for ending Russia’s war against Ukraine, although significant questions remain over the terms of any potential agreement.
