Russia has launched a missile and drone attack on Ukraine, killing at least 14 people and injuring at least 22 others in one of the deadliest attacks on Kyiv this year.
The attack began shortly after midnight on Wednesday. Kyiv military administration chief Timur Tkachenko said that “the enemy is once again carrying out a massive attack on the Kyiv region.”
Air raid alerts remained active for more than an hour as waves of ballistic missiles struck the city and surrounding areas. Kyiv’s military administration reported damage to residential buildings and warehouses.
Tkachenko said that nine people were killed in the Boryspil district, four in the Bucha district, and one in the Fastiv district.
Ukraine has urged its allies to provide additional U.S.-made Patriot interceptor missiles to help defend against Russian ballistic missile attacks.
Russia’s Ministry of Defense claimed that its forces targeted logistics and supply facilities in Kyiv and the surrounding region.
“These facilities were involved in the storage and distribution of weapons and military equipment, as well as the production and deployment of unmanned aerial vehicles,” the ministry said in a statement.
