U.S. President Donald Trump has launched a new attack on Iran, describing the country as a “failed nation” and accusing its leadership of presiding over a severe economic and military collapse.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump claimed that Iranian authorities were struggling to pay military officers and police, while the country was facing soaring inflation and a dramatic decline in the value of its national currency.
Trump also accused Tehran of carrying out a bloody crackdown on anti-government protesters and said Iranian leaders should face prosecution for what he described as crimes against humanity.
“Iran is officially a failed nation. IT IS DEAD!” Trump wrote.
He claimed that Iran no longer had an effective navy or air force and alleged that the country’s leadership was in disarray and incapable of properly governing the country.
Trump further claimed that inflation in Iran had reached 300 percent and accused the government of relying on propaganda and disinformation while suppressing domestic opposition.
The U.S. president also made an unverified claim regarding the number of people killed during protests, alleging that more than 100,000 people had died.
He said Iranian authorities should be held accountable for what he described as crimes against humanity.
“The only thing they have is FAKE NEWS from the United States, a willingness to kill their protesters … and the ability to promote nonsense and lies,” Trump wrote.
Trump’s remarks represent another sharp escalation in his rhetoric toward Tehran, combining accusations over Iran’s economic crisis, military capabilities and its alleged treatment of anti-government protesters.
