Trump can stop the war, Szijjarto: Hungary does not see Russia as a threat to NATO

For Hungary, Donald Trump will be an important factor in achieving peace between Ukraine and Russia. This fact was announced by the Foreign Minister of Hungary, Peter Szijjarto, during an interview with the Reuters News Agency.

“We see a chance for peace if President Trump is winning. We see a chance for good Hungary-US relations if President Trump wins. I think there must be a very strong external influence to make them negotiate. Who has the chance to do this in the next period? That’s only President Trump if he’s elected.”

Szijjarto said Hungary does not see Russia as a threat to NATO or European Union members, saying Russia’s leaders are “rational” and will not risk a direct conflict with the West.

Viktor Orbán’s recent meetings with Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy show the great distance between the two sides and other Western leaders.

Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban visited Moscow last week on what he called a peace mission, but the move angered some of Budapest’s fellow NATO allies, who said the trip lent legitimacy to Russian President Vladimir Putin’s claims over confiscated Ukrainian territory. since the invasion of Russia in 2022.

Hungary’s position on Ukraine contrasts with other NATO leaders, including Biden, who say Kiev should decide when to negotiate an end to the war. Ukraine says it will not give up any territory in a peace deal.
