U.S. President Donald Trump today rejected comments from some “America First” supporters who argue that the U.S. should not support Israel in its fight against its enemies, stating that stopping Iran’s nuclear program is a prerequisite for peace.
“For those who say they want peace, the message is – you cannot have peace if Iran has nuclear weapons. So, for all those wonderful people who don’t want to do anything about Iran having nuclear weapons, the message is that’s not peace,” Trump said, as reported by the Times of Israel.
He emphasized that preventing Iran from acquiring nuclear weapons is a “vital U.S. interest.”
“Iran cannot have a nuclear bomb, it’s very simple. Whether it’s about Israel or not, Iran cannot have a nuclear bomb,” Trump declared.
Although top Iranian officials announced today that negotiations with the U.S. are pointless after the Israeli attack, Trump claims that Iran “still wants to reach a deal” on its nuclear program.
