The Trump administration has directed the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to immediately cease all work related to climate change, including the use of climate-related terminology in official programs and documents.
According to Bloomberg, this move is part of a broader effort to roll back President Joe Biden’s climate policies. The directive, issued Friday, instructs DHS officials to “immediately halt all work related to climate change and discontinue the use of climate-related terminology in DHS programs and documents, to the extent legally possible.”
Additionally, reports suggest that Trump is considering shutting down the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), which operates under DHS and is responsible for disaster response. Instead, he aims to shift disaster management responsibilities to individual states.
The decision has sparked concerns among climate advocates and emergency response officials, who warn that limiting federal oversight could hinder preparedness and response to extreme weather events.
