U.S. President Donald Trump announced that the reciprocal tariffs Washington plans to introduce on Wednesday will apply to “all countries,” not just those with the largest trade imbalances with the U.S.
“We will start with all countries, and we’ll see,” Trump told reporters last night, rejecting the idea that the tariffs would only target a small number of trade partners.
Following the tariffs on steel and aluminum, and before tariffs on automobiles, Trump plans to introduce what he calls “reciprocal” tariffs, which will change the rules of global trade.
Trump, who refers to April 2 as “Liberation Day,” intends to implement new tariff measures based on the taxes those countries impose on American products.
