British Prime Minister Keir Starmer met with President Donald Trump at the White House.

The two leaders of their respective countries discussed several important issues and faced a series of questions from journalists during a press conference in the Oval Office, which lasted for about half an hour.

One of the key moments in the discussion was Trump’s statement that Ukraine would not join NATO and that it would pay European countries for the assistance they had provided in the war against Russia.

This claim was immediately corrected by British leader Keir Starmer, who clarified that “only part of the aid has been provided as a loan, and for the rest, there will be no payments from Ukraine.”

At another point in the conference, Trump was asked about his policy toward the United Kingdom and the possibility of the country avoiding the 25% tariffs he had threatened to impose on the European Union.

“We’re talking about a very different country than the EU,” Trump initially said. “This is a country where I’ve made investments, as I own properties in Turnberry, I own in Aberdeen, and I also have a wonderful place called ‘Doonbeg’ in Ireland. So, I have significant investments in your country,” Trump said, implying that Britain might be exempted from the tax order for Europe.

A significant moment also occurred when Trump refused to repeat a previous claim where he had called Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky a “dictator.”

When asked about it, Trump humorously responded, “Did I really say that?” and avoided further discussion on the matter.

Regarding peace negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, Starmer thanked Trump, as, according to him, the US president quickly and decisively changed the course of events. At the same time, the White House leader expressed confidence in Vladimir Putin.

“You can’t handle Russia alone, can you?” Trump asked Starmer with irony.

“However, I am convinced that Putin will keep his word. Russia will withdraw from some of the occupied territories,” Trump declared.
