Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in Washington late last night, where he is set to hold talks with U.S. President Donald Trump.

Zelensky hopes to secure some form of security guarantees that would support any peace agreement negotiated with Russia.

He is also expected to sign a pact that would grant the U.S. access to Ukraine’s rare mineral resources, according to the BBC.

Their meeting comes a day after Trump met with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer. Following that conversation, Trump predicted a “very good meeting” with Zelensky on Friday.

On Wednesday, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal stated that a preliminary agreement with the U.S. foresees the establishment of an “investment fund” for the reconstruction of Ukraine.

However, President Zelensky said it was “too early to discuss money.”
