U.S. President Donald Trump has thanked Kosovo for its contribution to international efforts aimed at stabilizing the situation in Gaza.
Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday, September 22, Trump mentioned Kosovo among the countries he said had committed troops, police personnel and training to support efforts to stabilize Gaza.
“I also want to thank those who have committed troops, police and training to help stabilize Gaza, including Indonesia, Morocco, Albania, Kosovo, Kazakhstan, Egypt, Jordan and others,” Trump said.
During his address, Trump also said that his administration had been involved in efforts to end eight conflicts during his presidency. He said those efforts had also enabled him to establish relationships with leaders of the countries involved.
“It was a great honor to do it,” Trump said.
Trump has previously referred to Kosovo-Serbia relations when discussing his administration’s diplomatic efforts. At a Peace Board meeting in February, he cited Kosovo and Serbia as an example of a conflict he said he had helped prevent from escalating.
“We have a great relationship with each other because we are working… One example: Kosovo and Serbia. I did that,” Trump said at the time, according to the report.
Trump’s latest remarks come as Kosovo has sought to deepen its role in international security and stabilization initiatives, including through cooperation with the United States and its allies.
