From the panel “EU Enlargement” in Munich, Prime Minister Edi Rama stated that the election of Donald Trump to the White House was “God’s most generous act towards the EU.”
Rama said that Trump’s election should serve as an opportunity for Europe to wake up and stop being “so self-referential.”
“Trump’s election is God’s most generous act towards the EU, giving Europe a chance to wake up. Europe should first of all not be so self-referential. I agree with Marta that the values and principles that unite the member states should remain as such, but they should not be conditions to have friends in this world.
We must learn to be friends with others even though they may have different values, different ways, and different ideas about how life should be. The last thing, Europe should think about both strength and competitiveness. If we are not able to compete economically, we will not be able to do anything else. In this regard, the Western Balkans is a land of opportunities,” the Prime Minister said in Munich.
