U.S. Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff met on Thursday in Paris with French officials and the U.K.’s National Security Adviser, Jonathan Powell.
Paris is hosting a series of talks on Thursday focused on Ukraine and its security, including U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Witkoff, French President Emmanuel Macron, and senior Ukrainian officials, according to the Associated Press.
Rubio arrived in Paris on Thursday morning.
Rubio and Witkoff are expected to hold “talks with European counterparts to advance President Trump’s goal of ending the Russia-Ukraine war and stopping the bloodshed,” said State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce.
The meetings come amid growing concerns over Trump’s willingness to move closer to Russia as he seeks to mediate a ceasefire in Ukraine. These concerns also stem from other recent moves by his administration — from imposing tariffs on some of the U.S.’s closest partners to rhetoric surrounding NATO and even Greenland.
