In the United Kingdom, Downing Street has stated that the government continues to work closely with allies in the Middle East “to mitigate threats to UK maritime transport whenever possible,” BBC reported, as cited by Rks News.

A spokesperson for Prime Minister Keir Starmer said the government is working on a range of options to support shipping through the Strait of Hormuz. Energy Secretary Ed Miliband had stated that he spoke with companies, including BP and Shell, to reassure them regarding the government’s concern for the safety of ships and personnel in the region.

The Prime Minister’s spokesperson added that the Department for Transport is also involved and “providing advice and guidance as needed.”

When asked about UK military movements and whether they would be deployed in the shipping channel, the spokesperson said the government’s “priority remains de-escalation and a return to diplomacy.”
