US Accuses Russia of Disinformation Campaign to Influence Presidential Elections

The administration of President Joe Biden has accused Russia of engaging in disinformation campaigns targeting the presidential elections in the United States.

Attorney General Merrick Garland, who articulated the administration’s stance, detailed the United States’ deep concern over these campaigns and announced legal actions against those suspected of being involved in these efforts.

Among other things, Garland stated that Russia, through its state media, has used influential American figures with large social media followings, without their knowledge, to spread disinformation and propaganda.

In a speech last month, Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco said that Russia posed the primary threat to elections.

According to her, Russian President Vladimir Putin and those working for Russia are using increasingly sophisticated techniques in their interference operations, reports VOA.
