U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth reiterated that the ceasefire remains in place despite ongoing exchanges of fire in the Strait of Hormuz, reports CNN.

“No, the ceasefire has not ended. Ultimately, this is a distinct and separate effort, and we expected from the beginning that there would be some fluctuations, which is what has happened,” Hegseth said during a press conference at the Pentagon on Tuesday.

Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Dan Caine, stated that Iran has attacked U.S. forces more than 10 times since the ceasefire was announced, but emphasized that this remains below the “threshold for the resumption of major combat operations.”

Meanwhile, Admiral Brad Cooper, commander of U.S. Central Command, told reporters that the United States had “destroyed” six small Iranian boats in the strait.
