Riho Terras, the European Parliament’s rapporteur for Kosovo, has commented on the U.S. decision to withdraw 5,000 troops from Germany.
Terras said the troop withdrawal plan is “not a catastrophe,” but warned that a more serious issue is the cancellation of the deployment of Tomahawk missiles.
“The plan to withdraw 5,000 American troops from Germany is not a catastrophe. Much more serious is the cancellation of the deployment of Tomahawk missiles. Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland must act together and convince Donald Trump to use troops from Germany to strengthen the Suwalki Corridor,” he wrote on X.
Meanwhile, President Trump has stated that the United States will withdraw 5,000—and possibly many more—troops stationed in Germany, following criticism from German Chancellor Friedrich Merz over how Washington is handling tensions with Iran. Merz said Tehran had “humiliated” the United States.
