The US Embassy in Kosovo commemorated the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, recalling February 18, 2008, when the United States officially recognized Kosovo’s independence.
Citing then-Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, the embassy emphasized that the US remains Kosovo’s closest friend and partner, highlighting the special bond between the two peoples.
“Today, 18 years ago, the United States officially recognized Kosovo as a sovereign and independent state. President Bush responded positively to Kosovo’s request to establish diplomatic relations between our two countries. Establishing these relations reaffirmed the special friendship linking the peoples of the United States and Kosovo,” the embassy stated.
Rice’s statement added:
“…As Kosovo begins its life as an independent state, the United States commits to continue being its closest friend and partner.”
